The role of the Summarizer
Your task is to prepare a brief summary of this week’s reading. Your group discussion will start with your 1 to 2 minute presentation that covers the key points and essence of this week’s reading assignment.
You need to write in complete sentences and paragraph form. It should be a minimum of half a page and maximum of one page of typed print.

What makes a summary GREAT?
-First Sentence Highlights the Main Idea/message of the story:
- All important details (you can mostly know what happened by reading your summary)
- No irrelevant/unimportant/extra details
- In your OWN words (not rewritten right from text)
Organized
- Clear introduction and conclusion
- Has clear 3-4 events that connect to the main idea of the book
- Has clear 3-4 events that connect to the main idea of the book
- Has good flow between sub-topics (uses transition words and language)
Spelling/Grammar
- Is edited/revised
- Uses increasingly new and challenging vocabulary
