The role of the Connector
We humans are excellent at making connections between new experiences and prior knowledge. Have you ever met someone who reminded you of someone else or read a book that reminded of something else you had read? These are connections.
Your job is to find connections between the book you are reading and; your own life (text to self), something else you have read or watched (text to media), and the world around you (text to world).
You will start by explaining what part of the book you have made a connection with and then will write at least 1 paragraph to explain your connection in depth. ). Be sure to include how making these personal connections has helped you to understand that part of the book or its characters better. You are responsible for at least one of each type of connection.
How to EXPLAIN a CONNECTION
1) Identify what in the text you are connecting with
2) Describe what I am connecting to... (self, media, world)
3) Discuss how the two things connect
Back up your thoughts with evidence
4) Describe how making the connection helped you better understand/relate to the text
Explain how it helps you make an inference, form opinions, visualize, predict, evaluate.
